“We should not just aim to serve those we can easily reach. We cannot talk about holistic development if certain parts of our society are left behind.”

Shimta Atipa Nembaware
Complaints Handling and Investigations Manager with the Zimbabwe Gender Commission
Four years ago, we partnered the Zimbabwe Gender Commission on the foundational work of the National Inquiry on Child Marriages. Building on the inquiry’s insights, UNDP continues to support the Commission in implementing critical recommendations to dismantle systemic barriers that perpetuate child marriages.
“One day he raped us – that was the most painful experience and we cried all night. We did not know where to seek for help - we live very far from facilities where we could report or get help.”

12-year old young mother, survivor of sexual and gender based violence
Shimtah Nembaware, who played a crucial role in gathering testimony from child marriage survivors during the National Inquiry, now works on the implementation of two key recommendations.
‍
We worked with Shimtah and the Commission to take the Mobile One Stop programme to hard-to-reach communities - bringing the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Police Victim Friendly Unit, legal aid lawyers, the National Prosecuting Authority, Department of Social Development and other key institutions and NGOs.
2,000
people served at Mobile One Stop  centres across six provinces.
▲ Uniting key service providers, the Mobile One Stop Centre Programme delivers comprehensive support to Gender Based Violence survivors. This integrated approach covers the full justice delivery chain, alongside vital services such as national document registration, all in one accessible location.
Simultaneously, the programme identifies ventures empowering women that have potential to be scaled up and linking them to partners for additional support and training.
1 million
samples per year, exceeding the previous 400,000 average, achieved through successful collaboration with our IST programme partners.
▲ In addition to justice, legal and psychological support, mobile one stop centres provide related healthcare services such as family planning.
