Proper Nkomo
Lead Farmer for Divine Hope Farmer Field School
Shifting long-held farming practices requires more than just instruction. We are supporting the Ministry of Agriculture to implement Farmer Field Schools, a practical approach designed to change mindsets and empower smallholder farmers with climate-smart agriculture techniques.
Proper Nkomo understands that women’s financial contributions strengthen households and reduce marital strife.
‍
She uses her Farmer Field School to guide young women (four out of her ten follower farmers) towards both successful farming and financial independence. Notably, their collective savings last year allowed each woman to obtain a goat - the first livestock owned for most of them.
‍
Climate-smart farming is increasing their chances at financial independence.
6,900
lead farmers supported to demonstrate climate smart agricultural practises to nearly 63,000 follower farmers
