Silence to Strength

Overcoming obstacles for Gender Based Violence survivors
SDG 5 icon - Gender Equality
Victims of GBV often do not seek legal services for remedy for various reasons. In rural areas, this is compounded by the long distance that needs to be travelled for one to access police, medical and legal services.

In some areas police stations and clinics are located 20 to 30 kilometers away.

This severely affects survivors cases as some services are time sensitive - for example, medical services need to be accessed within 72 hours to prevent HIV and unwanted pregnancies.

The Zimbabwe Gender Commission has been entrusted with the crucial task of investigating potential violations of gender rights and ensuring absolute equality as enshrined in the Constitution.

In pursuit of these essential objectives, UNDP has extended its support to the Commission by enabling the establishment of mobile One Stop Centers in the remote regions of Manicaland Province.
