Foreword

Forward,
together.

2022 was the first year of our comprehensive five-year programme aimed at gearing the country towards achieving its goals & the SDGs.

As Zimbabwe strives to rebuild amidst ongoing challenges, our primary focus is reaching those furthest from essential services - no one should be left behind! To this end, we channeled more than US$191 million in development support in 2022. Our heartfelt appreciation to our partners for their  continued trust in us.

This report encapsulates our efforts and presents them through nine inspiring stories of individuals, communities, and institutions. It was a true honor to support them in their journey of progress.

PROGRAMMES
1
Promoting
equality & quality
access to services
The HIV/AIDS response in Zimbabwe has achieved remarkable milestones, and we are delighted to play a part in this progress through management of the Global Fund grants.

Highlights from 2022 include ensuring the continuity of the Anti-Retroviral Treatment programme, expanding the Solar for Health initiative to more health facilities,
improving storage spaces at central and facility levels and well as access to quality water at hospitals by drilling boreholes. Additionally, we advocated for policy changes, contributed to the Health Workers Retention scheme, and empowered adolescent girls and young women through prevention programmes.
2
Enhancing
food systems &
the environment
for people and planet
Zimbabwe has encountered unprecedented economic, environmental, and social challenges with lasting effects. Despite this, our resilience building programmes have yielded exciting results, especially in enhancing productivity.

We also made substantial investments in climate information systems and played a vital role in crafting national and sub-national policies and strategies. Furthermore, we intensified our endeavours to safeguard Zimbabwe's environment and natural ecosystems.
3

Empowering
inclusive & sustainable
economic growth

The Zimbabwean economy faces challenges with high levels of informal and low-productivity work, limiting the realisation of basic rights.

In 2022, we partnered with the International Labour Organisation and the Government to develop a strategy aimed at transitioning from the informal to formal economy, fostering positive change. We also assisted urban authorities in revitalizing urban food markets through updated by-laws and created opportunities for green jobs.
4

Strengthening
accountable & fair
institutions

On justice, law, and order, our efforts focused on establishing fair and consistent sentencing guidelines, combatting child marriages and exploitation, and facilitating Zimbabwe's human rights peer review process.

In terms of service delivery, we take pride in our contributions to developing frameworks and studies that will shape the country's devolution strategy. Additionally, we continued to strengthen the capacity of the electoral, gender, and public service commissions.
Operations

The driving force
behind our endeavours.

Operations serve as a crucial strategic tool for delivering development support. Despite the challenging environment, we remained committed to optimizing our efforts and enhancing efficiency, all while upholding accountability.

Key highlights of the year include striving for gender balance in recruitment and procurement, generating savings and maximize value for our resources, and leading the way in ‘greening’ our operations.
